**PLEASE NOTE this assignment will not be submitted through Canvas.**
STEP 1: Study a Sample Lesson Plan
Download and study the sample lesson plan . The plan includes some side comments, their aim is to demonstrate teacher thinking while preparing the lesson. IMPORTANT: this plan is just an illustration of what your final product may look like, it is not a recipe to be followed to the dot. We want you to follow your train of thought and focus on your own ideas.
While reading the plan, think about the following questions:
- How has the teacher structured the lesson?
- Why did she decide to structure it in this way?
Write down in your journal some ideas that you found effective and conductive to learning.
STEP 2: Select a Grammar Item to Focus On
You may choose a structure that either presents a challenge for your students or a structure that you find challenging to teach.
Explore the grammar item you have selected - use grammar books for students, grammar resource books, practice books, the internet.
Think about the following questions:
- What kind of learning challenge does this item present for your students? How would you address that challenge?
- How can you present the target grammar item in an effective way?
STEP 3: Choose Practice Activities
Think about the following questions:
- What kind of practice activities would help your students?
- Do these activities address the learning challenge?
Write down your ideas in your journal. Feel free to borrow ideas from the course resources and additional resources.
STEP 4: Use the Template to Prepare Your Lesson Plan
Open the Word document Lesson Planning Template . Read the guidelines and rubric. You will use this document to prepare your initial presentation and practice plan.
IMPORTANT: If you don't have the ability to edit Word Documents, click HERE to download the lesson planning template in a PDF format. Please use this document to prepare a lesson plan.
Outline a first draft of your lesson. Use the rubric included in the template to self-evaluate your plan. Make changes if necessary.
STEP 5: Use the Rubric to Assess Your Lesson Plan
Use the rubric included in the template to self-evaluate your plan. Make changes if necessary.
STEP 6: Teach Your Lesson
Teach the plan. At the end of the lesson, ask your students to tell you what they learned during the lesson, what they liked, what didn’t work for them, and why this may be the case.
STEP 7: Reflect on Your Lesson
Use your observations and your students’ feedback to reflect on what went well, what didn’t go well, and why this may be the case. Write your notes in your journal.
STEP 8: Revise Your Lesson Plan
Use your notes and the students' feedback to revise your lesson. If possible, teach it again to a different group of students and repeat the process.
Happy teaching!
