Apply what you have learned so far
(60 minutes for lesson planning + 3 hours for teaching and post-lesson reflection)

It's time to apply what you have learned so far and plan a task-based grammar lesson. We will guide you through the lesson planning stages and provide you with additional resources to help you outline and self-evaluate a communicative grammar lesson. Click HERE Download HEREto download these instructions.

**PLEASE NOTE this assignment will not be submitted through Canvas.**

STEP 1: Study Sample Lesson Plans.

Download and study two sample lesson plans Download two sample lesson plans. Read them carefully and consider how grammar teaching is included in these lessons.

IMPORTANT: these plans are just an illustration of what your final product may look like, they are not recipes to be followed to the dot. We want you to follow your train of thought and focus on your own ideas.

Write down in your journal some ideas that you found effective and conducive to learning.

STEP 2: Select a Topic, Choose a Task and Define Outcomes

You may choose a topic from the course book that you use, or something that is interesting for your students.

Choose a task from Module 4, Task 5 that is appropriate for your students.

Define task outcomes in non-linguistic terms (e.g. students present a chart, prepare a booklet, record a video, etc.)

STEP 3: Predict Task Language

List the language forms that students may need to use to compete the task (e.g. preparing a list of the most significant scientists in the 20th century will involve the use of comparatives and superlatives). Outline possible analysis and practice activities.

STEP 4: Use the Template to Prepare Your Lesson Plan

Open the Word document Lesson Planning Template Download Lesson Planning Template. Read the guidelines and self-evaluation rubric. You will use this document to prepare your initial TBLT lesson.

IMPORTANT: If you don't have the ability to edit Word documents, click HERE Download HEREto download the lesson planning template in a PDF format. Please use this document to prepare a lesson plan.

Outline a first draft of your lesson.

STEP 5: Use the Rubric to Assess Your Lesson Plan

Use the rubric included in the template to self-evaluate your plan. Make changes if necessary.

STEP 6: Teach Your Lesson

Teach the plan. At the end of the lesson, ask your students to tell you what they learned during the lesson, what they liked, what didn’t work for them, and why this may be the case.

STEP 7: Reflect on Your Lesson

Use your observations and your students’ feedback to reflect on what went well, what didn’t go well, and why this may be the case. Write your notes in your journal.

STEP 8: Revise Your Lesson Plan

Use your notes and the students' feedback to revise your lesson. If possible, teach it again to a different group of students and repeat the process.

Happy teaching!
